The Life Design Method

Your Adaptive Roles

The ways you learned to show up, cope, succeed, and survive.

Over a lifetime you develop roles: intelligent strategies your personality built in response to your environment and what was asked of you. None of them are flaws. This short workbook helps you recognise the roles that have shaped you most, so you can keep their strengths and gently update what no longer fits.

You will read a series of statements and rate how true each one feels for you right now. It takes about ten minutes. There are no right answers, and nothing here is a diagnosis. This is simply recognition, without judgement.

Answer honestly rather than aspirationally. Rate how things actually are for you, not how you would like them to be. The roles that score highest are the ones worth your attention.

Your top three roles

These are the roles scoring most strongly for you right now. Read them as recognition, not as a verdict. You will likely see yourself in more than three, and that is completely normal.

A note as you read these

There is nothing wrong with you. The version of you that developed these roles was doing exactly what needed to be done at the time, responding intelligently to your circumstances. The strengths are real and they are genuinely yours.

You are also allowed to update. You can keep the strengths and release the parts that no longer serve you. That is not betraying who you have been. It is honouring who you are becoming.
